The 120-year cycle of the Vimshottari Dasha system, promulgated by Maharishi Parashara in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, represents the supreme chronobiological clock of human karma. Among these cycles, the Mars Mahadasha (7 years) marks a profound chapter of karmic manifestation, activating the natal houses ruled and occupied by Mars (मङ्गल).
शास्त्रीय प्रमाणम् (Classical Sanskrit Reference):
« भौमस्य पाके विमलं प्रतापं भूमिप्रदं च। »
— Classical Horoscopic Source
भावार्थ (Scholarly Interpretation): During the operational span of Mars (7 years), the soul undergoes experiences centered on dynamic action, real estate gains, courage & overcoming adversaries.
Astronomical & Nakshatra Governance
The Vimshottari Mahadasha of Mars is initiated whenever the natal Moon is positioned in one of its governing nakshatras: Mrigashira, Chitra, Dhanishta. The balance of dasha at birth (Bhukta and Bhogya Dasha) depends on the exact degree of the Moon traversed within the asterism.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Mars Mahadasha bring auspicious results even if Mars is in an enemy sign?
Yes. If Mars possesses high Shadbala, occupies an auspicious Navamsha, or is aspected by functional benefics like Jupiter, its dasha can produce remarkable achievements despite difficult external conditions.
What is the most critical period during Mars Mahadasha?
The initial Antardasha (Svadasha) sets the foundational tone, while the Dasha Sandhi (the final six to nine months of the dasha) marks the pivotal transition toward the subsequent planetary cycle.
Does Mars Mahadasha affect all 12 Ascendants equally?
No. The functional nature of Mars (whether it acts as a Yogakaraka, Maraka, or Dusthana lord for the specific Lagna) determines the qualitative nature of its results.
