The timing of your first meal. Movement during the day. Darkness approaching at night. The hour at which you finally sleep.

These ordinary events are not biologically neutral.

The human body contains internal timing systems that continuously use information from the environment and from our behaviour to organise sleep, alertness, hormones, metabolism and many other physiological processes.

Modern science studies this through circadian biology.

Traditional Indian systems also gave considerable importance to time, daily routine, sensory experience, food, movement and adaptation to changing environmental conditions.

This creates an interesting point of dialogue.

But it also creates a risk.

It is tempting to translate every traditional concept directly into a modern scientific mechanism:

Dosha becomes neurotransmitter.
Prana becomes electricity.
Indriya becomes receptor.
Dinacharya becomes circadian medicine.

Those translations may sound scientific, but they are usually too simplistic.

A more useful investigation asks:

How does the body actually detect time, which signals can alter biological rhythms, and where do traditional observations genuinely intersect with modern evidence?

The Body Does Not Simply Know What Time the Clock Says

Your cells cannot see the numbers on a wall clock.

Biological time is constructed from internal rhythms combined with signals arriving from the environment.

The body uses recurring cues such as:

light and darkness, sleep and waking, activity and rest, eating and fasting.

These signals help synchronise internal physiology with the outside world.

A signal capable of synchronising a biological rhythm is often called a zeitgeber, a German word meaning “time giver.”

For humans, the most powerful known environmental zeitgeber is light.

Other behaviours, including exercise and meal timing, can also interact with biological timing, although their effects are not identical to those of light.

This distinction matters.

Not every daily activity resets the biological clock with equal strength.

The SCN: A Central Coordinator of Circadian Time

Inside the hypothalamus is a small structure known as the suprachiasmatic nucleus, or SCN.

The SCN is a major central coordinator of circadian rhythms.

Specialised retinal cells detect environmental light and send timing-related information through neural pathways reaching the SCN.

This allows changes in environmental illumination to influence internal biological timing.

The SCN then participates in coordinating rhythms throughout the organism.

These rhythms include processes associated with:

sleep and wakefulness, body temperature, hormone secretion, alertness, metabolism and behaviour.

Calling the SCN the “master clock” is convenient, but it should not create the impression that one small brain region directly controls every process every minute.

The human circadian system is a network.

Your Organs Also Keep Time

Many tissues throughout the body contain molecular clock mechanisms.

Circadian rhythmicity has been observed in systems involving the:

liver, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, skeletal muscle, adipose tissue and cardiovascular system.

These are often described as peripheral clocks.

The central circadian system helps coordinate these rhythms, but peripheral tissues also respond to behavioural and metabolic information.

This means biological timing emerges from communication between:

central clocks, peripheral clocks, environmental cues and behaviour.

That is why circadian health cannot be reduced simply to “sleep eight hours.”

When you sleep, when you receive light, when you eat and when you are active can all provide information to biological systems.

Light Is More Than Something That Helps Us See

Vision is only one biological use of light.

Light also carries information about environmental time.

Specialised retinal ganglion cells containing the photopigment melanopsin contribute importantly to non-visual responses to light.

Through retinal pathways, light can influence:

circadian phase, melatonin regulation, alertness and sleep timing.

This is why the timing of light exposure matters.

Light received during different biological phases can produce different effects.

Morning or early biological-day light can tend to shift circadian timing earlier under appropriate conditions.

Evening and nighttime light can tend to shift timing later.

The response depends on multiple factors including:

light intensity, spectrum, duration, timing and the individual’s current circadian phase.

There is therefore no universal prescription such as:

“Exactly 15 minutes of sunlight within 30 minutes of waking resets everyone’s clock.”

Morning outdoor light is often a useful practical habit, but biological responses vary.

Melatonin Is a Signal of Biological Night

Melatonin is frequently called the “sleep hormone.”

That description is convenient but incomplete.

Melatonin is better understood as an important signal associated with biological night.

Under typical conditions, melatonin secretion increases during the biological evening, remains elevated during much of the night and falls toward morning.

Light exposure at night can suppress or alter melatonin secretion depending on characteristics of the light and the timing of exposure.

This does not mean darkness instantly produces sleep.

Sleep is regulated through interactions between circadian timing, accumulated sleep pressure and many other factors.

Melatonin participates in this system rather than acting as a simple chemical sleeping pill produced by the brain.

Cortisol Does Not Simply Peak at 7–9 AM

One of the most important corrections to common circadian graphics concerns cortisol.

Cortisol follows a pronounced daily rhythm, but stating that it simply “peaks between 7 and 9 AM” is misleading.

An important phenomenon called the cortisol awakening response occurs after waking.

In many healthy individuals, cortisol rises rapidly during approximately the first 30–45 minutes after awakening.

This means the timing is partly anchored to when the person wakes, not merely to a fixed clock hour.

A person waking at 5:30 AM and a person waking at 8:30 AM therefore cannot be understood through a single universal “7–9 AM cortisol peak.”

Cortisol then generally declines across the remainder of the day, although individual variation is substantial.

Modern research consequently treats cortisol timing far more carefully than a simple morning chart suggests.

Cortisol Is Not a “Bad Stress Chemical”

Cortisol is often discussed only in negative language.

That is also misleading.

Cortisol is an essential glucocorticoid hormone involved in normal physiological functions including:

energy metabolism, immune regulation, cardiovascular physiology and adaptation to changing demands.

Stress can alter cortisol activity.

Chronic disturbances of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal system can be relevant to health.

But the goal is not to eliminate cortisol.

A healthy organism requires appropriately regulated cortisol signalling.

This illustrates a larger principle:

biology is usually about regulation, not simply having more or less of one chemical.

What Does Ayurveda Say About Time?

Ayurveda gives considerable importance to Kala, or time.

Physiology and health are considered in relation to changing conditions rather than as completely static states.

Traditional Ayurvedic discussions include daily behaviour, seasonal adaptation, food, digestion, sleep and other aspects of routine.

Two commonly discussed frameworks are:

Dinacharya, relating to daily regimen, and Ritucharya, relating to seasonal regimen.

Modern circadian science does not prove these Ayurvedic systems.

The two traditions developed different explanations of human physiology.

Yet they share an important observation:

The state of the human organism changes with time and environment.

That makes comparison worthwhile.

Dinacharya and Circadian Regularity

Dinacharya is often presented today as an exact timetable:

wake at one fixed hour, perform particular practices at particular times, eat within predetermined windows and sleep at a universal hour.

Classical lifestyle guidance deserves to be understood in its proper traditional context.

Modern chronobiology, however, supports a broader idea that is relevant:

regular patterns can matter.

Circadian systems respond to repeated timing signals.

Large irregularities in sleep, light exposure and other behaviours can create conflicts among environmental time, social schedules and internal biological rhythms.

This does not prove that one Ayurvedic timetable is biologically ideal for every person.

Age, occupation, latitude, season, health status and chronotype all matter.

A shift worker cannot simply follow the same schedule as someone who works during conventional daytime hours.

The meaningful bridge is therefore rhythmic consistency, not rigid clock obedience.

Are Kapha, Pitta and Vata Periods Circadian Phases?

Modern Ayurveda frequently divides the day into Dosha periods and then tries to connect them with hormones or neurotransmitters.

For example:

Kapha time = low activation

Pitta time = cortisol and metabolism

Vata time = nervous-system activity

These associations should not be presented as established neuroscience.

Doshas belong to the theoretical framework of Ayurveda.

Circadian phases are measured through physiological variables such as:

melatonin timing, core body temperature, sleep–wake patterns, gene expression and hormonal rhythms.

There is currently no accepted biomedical evidence demonstrating that a Kapha period corresponds to one measurable neurochemical phase or that Pitta time represents a cortisol peak.

The systems can be compared conceptually.

They should not be declared identical.

The Five Senses Are Not Five Biological Receptors

Traditional Indian philosophical systems developed detailed concepts concerning the senses and sensory experience.

Ayurveda and other Indian traditions discuss the Indriyas, commonly translated in this context as sensory faculties or sense organs.

It is tempting to say:

“The Indriyas are the ancient description of neurological receptors.”

That would be inaccurate.

Modern sensory neuroscience contains numerous specialised receptor systems.

Vision alone involves several photoreceptor and retinal pathways.

Touch incorporates different mechanosensory systems.

Temperature, pain, smell, taste, proprioception and internal physiological sensing involve different receptors and neural circuits.

Traditional Indriya concepts belong to a different philosophical and physiological framework.

The meaningful shared question is simpler:

How does information from the environment enter and influence the organism?

Not Every Sense Sets the Circadian Clock Equally

Another common mistake is to place visual input, hearing, touch, proprioception and vestibular input together and say they all directly “inform the SCN.”

That is not how modern circadian physiology is normally described.

Light reaching specialised retinal pathways has a particularly well-established relationship with SCN entrainment.

Movement, exercise, eating and other behaviours can influence circadian timing through additional mechanisms.

Touch and proprioception certainly provide important information about the body and environment.

But they should not be described as equivalent circadian inputs to retinal light.

Different sensory systems perform different functions.

Movement Provides Powerful Information to the Nervous System

Although movement should not be treated as identical to light as a zeitgeber, physical activity clearly interacts with circadian physiology.

Exercise changes:

body temperature, cardiovascular activity, autonomic activity, metabolism and hormonal signalling.

Research also indicates that appropriately timed exercise can shift markers of circadian phase.

However, the effect depends on when the exercise occurs.

Studies of exercise timing show that morning, afternoon or evening exercise can produce different circadian responses depending on the individual’s baseline timing and chronotype.

Recent systematic evidence also does not support a simple rule that morning exercise is always superior to evening exercise for sleep.

The most practical conclusion is therefore:

regular physical activity is valuable, and timing can matter, but there is no universal best hour for every person.

Yoga Asana and the Sensory–Motor System

Yoga postures require continuous integration of information from:

muscles, joints, skin, vestibular systems, vision and motor control.

When you balance in a posture, the nervous system repeatedly compares expected body position with incoming sensory information.

This involves proprioception and sensory–motor integration.

That makes Asana interesting from a neuroscience perspective.

But traditional yoga texts should not be cited inaccurately to create a scientific mechanism.

For example, Gheranda Samhita 1.14 does not describe Asana. That verse occurs within the text’s discussion of forms of internal Dhauti.

The Gheranda Samhita does discuss Asanas elsewhere, but individual verses need to be cited accurately.

A credible traditional–science investigation must first represent the traditional text correctly.

Exercise Does Not Simply “Increase Circadian Amplitude”

Another claim requiring caution is that morning exercise necessarily “enhances the amplitude of circadian rhythms.”

Exercise can influence circadian physiology.

It may alter phase depending on timing and circumstances.

It can also support sleep and general health.

But human studies show variable responses.

Research has even demonstrated that exercise at certain evening or nighttime periods can produce circadian phase delays, while exercise at some daytime periods can produce phase advances.

This makes exercise an interesting non-photic timing cue.

It does not justify prescribing one fixed movement window as scientifically optimal for everyone.

Food Is Also a Timing Signal

Eating is more than the delivery of calories.

Food consumption creates powerful metabolic signals.

Meal timing interacts particularly strongly with clocks in peripheral tissues.

This has contributed to the developing field of chrononutrition.

Researchers investigate questions such as:

Does eating very late affect glucose regulation differently from eating earlier?

Does irregular meal timing disrupt metabolic rhythms?

Can restricted eating windows influence circadian physiology?

How does meal timing interact with sleep?

The answers are still developing.

But one conclusion is increasingly clear:

when we eat can influence physiology in addition to what and how much we eat.

Ayurveda, Food Timing and Agni

Ayurveda places major emphasis on digestion and uses the concept of Agni within its traditional physiological framework.

Modern writers sometimes translate Agni directly as metabolism.

That creates unnecessary confusion.

Modern metabolism refers to defined biochemical processes involving enzymes, hormones, cells, energy use and molecular pathways.

Agni belongs to an Ayurvedic explanatory model.

There is no laboratory test that directly measures Agni.

However, traditional attention to appetite, digestion, food quantity, food timing and individual tolerance can still generate valuable research questions.

The strongest comparison is therefore not:

Agni = metabolism.

It is:

Both Ayurveda and contemporary nutrition science recognise that digestion and response to food depend on context rather than food identity alone.

Does Everyone Need Their Largest Meal From 10 AM to 2 PM?

No universal biomedical rule establishes that every person’s largest meal must occur during a supposed Pitta period.

There is legitimate evidence that human metabolic responses vary across biological time and that very late eating may create disadvantages for some people.

But this should not be transformed into a rigid universal schedule.

Appropriate meal timing depends on circumstances including:

sleep timing, work schedule, metabolic health, exercise, medication and individual tolerance.

Traditional recommendations can be followed as part of an Ayurvedic lifestyle.

They should simply be identified as traditional recommendations rather than universal conclusions of modern circadian medicine.

The Gut Has Its Own Rhythms

The gastrointestinal system also shows daily rhythmicity.

Processes related to intestinal motility, digestive physiology, metabolism and the gut microbiome can vary across the day.

Microbial communities are influenced by factors such as:

diet, meal timing, sleep–wake patterns and host physiology.

Research into microbial rhythmicity is particularly interesting because disturbances in sleep or feeding schedules can alter both host metabolism and microbial patterns.

But this field remains complex.

The gut microbiome should not be treated as a clock that directly releases mood chemicals on a fixed daily schedule.

Gut Microbes and Neurotransmitters

Some intestinal microorganisms can produce or modify compounds associated with neuroactive pathways.

Research examines relationships involving:

GABA, tryptophan, serotonin-related pathways, dopamine-related molecules, short-chain fatty acids and other metabolites.

However, this does not mean gut bacteria directly control brain serotonin or dopamine concentration hour by hour.

Many neurotransmitters produced outside the brain do not simply cross the blood–brain barrier and become central neurotransmitters.

Microbiome–brain communication can occur through multiple mechanisms, including:

vagal signalling, immune pathways, endocrine signals, microbial metabolites and precursor metabolism.

The scientifically appropriate conclusion is:

the microbiome participates in gut–brain communication, but its influence on human mood and cognition cannot be reduced to a simple neurotransmitter-production chart.

The Vagus Nerve Is Important, but It Is Not a Wellness Switch

The vagus nerve is one of the major neural pathways connecting the brain with internal organs.

It contains extensive sensory fibres carrying information toward the brain as well as motor pathways influencing organs.

It participates in functions involving:

cardiovascular regulation, gastrointestinal activity, respiratory interactions and parasympathetic physiology.

Because of this, the vagus nerve has become extremely popular in wellness discussions.

Almost any calming practice is now sometimes described as “stimulating the vagus nerve.”

That language is often too broad.

Slow Breathing and Autonomic Regulation

Breathing is one area where meaningful physiological evidence exists.

Voluntary slow breathing can change cardiovascular dynamics and increase certain measures of heart-rate variability associated with parasympathetic cardiac regulation.

This does not mean:

“Deep breathing permanently increases vagal tone.”

Nor does it mean every breathing exercise produces the same response.

Breathing rate, depth, inhalation–exhalation ratio, breath retention and individual physiology all matter.

The stronger statement is:

Specific controlled breathing patterns can measurably alter cardiorespiratory and autonomic physiology.

That is already scientifically interesting.

There is no need to exaggerate it.

Sensory Awareness Does Not Automatically Increase Vagal Tone

Mindfully noticing:

breathing, bodily sensations, sounds or environmental cues

may be useful within meditation or psychological practice.

But simply becoming aware of a sensation has not been established as a universal method for “increasing vagal tone.”

Mindfulness research suggests that training can change how people perceive and relate to bodily signals.

Autonomic effects depend on the practice, population and measurement.

Interoceptive awareness and vagal physiology should therefore not be treated as the same variable.

Interoception: How the Brain Monitors the Body

The nervous system continuously receives information from inside the body.

This process is broadly described as interoception.

Signals may relate to:

heartbeat, breathing, hunger, fullness, visceral sensations, temperature and internal physiological arousal.

Brain regions including portions of the insula, brainstem, thalamus, somatosensory cortices and cingulate cortex participate in different aspects of this processing.

Interoception helps create an ongoing representation of the internal condition of the body.

This becomes important because the body is constantly changing with:

activity, food, stress, sleep, illness and biological time.

Circadian physiology therefore provides one part of the changing internal context that the nervous system must continually interpret.

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras Need Accurate Citation

The original version of this investigation cited Yoga Sutras, Vibhuti Pada 20–22 as support for mindful sensory awareness.

Those verses do not provide that instruction.

Depending on textual numbering conventions, this region of the Vibhuti Pada discusses themes involving knowledge of another mind, perception of the body and extraordinary yogic attainments such as invisibility.

It is therefore inappropriate to cite these Sutras as evidence that ordinary sensory awareness improves vagal tone or interoception.

Yoga contains rich teachings concerning attention and sensory regulation.

They should be cited where they actually occur.

For example, Pratyahara is discussed in Yoga Sutras 2.54–2.55.

Accurate textual scholarship strengthens rather than weakens the connection with tradition.

Pratyahara and the Modern Attention Environment

Pratyahara is often translated as withdrawal or regulation of the senses.

It should not be equated with a neural circuit.

However, the underlying question has become remarkably relevant:

What happens when attention is no longer continuously captured by sensory stimulation?

Modern life can involve constant:

notifications, videos, messages, music, advertisements and screen switching.

Reducing continuous stimulation may provide psychological space for attention to stabilise.

That is a useful modern reflection inspired by traditional practice.

It does not require claiming that Pratyahara directly alters serotonin, dopamine or vagal tone.

Evening Light: Think Beyond “Blue Light”

Popular sleep advice frequently says:

“Avoid blue light two hours before bed.”

The scientific issue is broader.

Circadian responses depend on:

brightness, wavelength, duration, timing and individual sensitivity.

Short-wavelength-enriched light can strongly affect melanopsin-sensitive pathways, but an extremely bright warm light can also be biologically relevant.

Conversely, not every glance at a dim screen causes major circadian disruption.

A more practical principle is:

As biological night approaches, reduce unnecessary bright light and avoid prolonged intense illumination when you are trying to prepare for sleep.

Screen content also matters psychologically.

A dim phone showing stressful work messages can disturb sleep for reasons beyond light biology.

A More Scientific Daily Rhythm Framework

Rather than promising “perfect neurochemical balance,” circadian science supports a flexible framework.

After Waking

Expose yourself to ordinary daytime light when practical.

Outdoor light is often considerably brighter than indoor illumination.

Use waking time rather than an arbitrary universal hour as your reference point.

During the Morning and Day

Be physically active.

Regular movement supports broad physical and psychological health.

Do not assume morning exercise is mandatory if another time allows better consistency.

Meals

Aim for a reasonably repeatable eating pattern when your lifestyle allows.

Avoid making exact clock times a source of anxiety.

People with metabolic disease, eating disorders or medical dietary requirements should follow appropriate professional guidance.

During Long Indoor Days

Seek opportunities for daytime light and movement rather than spending the entire biological day in dim indoor conditions.

Evening

Gradually reduce unnecessary brightness and intense stimulation as you approach your intended sleep period.

Before Sleep

Create a recognisable transition between active daytime behaviour and sleep.

Consistency is generally more useful than a complicated ritual performed perfectly for three days and abandoned.

Chronotype Matters

Not everyone naturally functions best at precisely the same hours.

People differ in chronotype, meaning their tendency toward earlier or later timing of sleep and activity.

Chronotype is influenced by factors including:

biology, age, environment and behaviour.

Teenagers and young adults often exhibit later timing than older adults.

That does not mean every late schedule is healthy or that social schedules never create problems.

It means a scientifically informed rhythm plan should not assume that one clock schedule suits everyone.

Traditional routines can still be personally meaningful.

Modern biological interpretation should remain individualised.

Social Jet Lag: When Social Time and Biological Time Conflict

Many people follow one schedule on working days and a dramatically different schedule on free days.

For example:

wake at 6:30 AM Monday to Friday;

sleep until 10:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday.

This creates a shift somewhat analogous to repeatedly moving between time zones.

Researchers often describe mismatch between biological timing and social schedules as social jet lag.

The concept illustrates why consistency can matter.

The body is continually trying to predict recurring patterns.

When behavioural timing repeatedly changes, biological systems must continually adapt.

Circadian Disruption Is Not the Same as One Late Night

Circadian-health discussions can become unnecessarily alarming.

Going to bed late for a wedding or eating a late dinner occasionally does not mean you have “destroyed your circadian rhythm.”

Human physiology is adaptable.

Concerns arise more when disruptive schedules become repeated or chronic.

Examples can include:

long-term shift work, persistent insufficient sleep, repeated major changes in sleep timing and extensive nighttime light exposure.

The goal is therefore not perfection.

It is reasonable rhythmic stability.

Where Traditional Wisdom and Circadian Science Genuinely Meet

The most meaningful overlap does not require neurotransmitter speculation.

Traditional Indian health systems recognised that:

the environment changes;

the body changes;

behaviour occurs within time;

food should be considered in context;

daily habits influence wellbeing;

season matters;

rest and activity need rhythm.

Modern chronobiology independently demonstrates that:

human physiology is temporally organised;

light synchronises circadian clocks;

behaviour interacts with biological rhythms;

feeding influences peripheral physiology;

activity can modify circadian phase;

sleep timing matters.

These are genuine areas of dialogue.

The mechanisms proposed by the two systems should remain distinguishable.

What Modern Science Strongly Supports

There is strong evidence for the existence of:

circadian rhythms, the central coordinating role of the SCN, retinal light input to circadian systems, molecular peripheral clocks, circadian melatonin regulation, the cortisol awakening response, temporal variation in metabolism, interactions between meal timing and peripheral physiology, and circadian effects of appropriately timed exercise.

What Research Is Still Developing

Research continues to investigate:

optimal exercise timing, chrononutrition, individual responses based on chronotype, microbiome rhythmicity, interactions between meditation and circadian physiology, and the long-term health effects of different patterns of behavioural regularity.

The existence of research should not be mistaken for final answers.

What Should Remain Identified as Traditional Knowledge

Concepts such as:

Dosha, Agni, Prana, Dinacharya, Ritucharya, Indriya and Pratyahara

belong to traditional knowledge frameworks.

They can inspire hypotheses.

They should not automatically be renamed using modern scientific vocabulary.

What Has Not Been Scientifically Established

Current evidence does not establish that:

Kapha time is a specific hormonal phase.

Pitta time is the cortisol peak.

Vata time corresponds to a defined neurotransmitter pattern.

Indriyas are neurological receptors.

Prana is neural electricity.

Dinacharya synchronises every person’s molecular clocks in the same way.

Sensory mindfulness automatically increases vagal tone.

Gut bacteria directly determine brain serotonin or dopamine according to time of day.

Planetary positions directly regulate the SCN, HPA axis or neurotransmitter release.

These distinctions are essential for a credible investigation.

Jyotisha and Biological Time Should Not Be Confused

Jyotisha contains sophisticated traditional systems involving astronomical and astrological time.

Modern chronobiology also studies time.

That does not make them the same discipline.

Earth’s rotation creates the light–dark cycle that strongly influences circadian biology.

Earth’s movement around the Sun contributes to seasonal changes.

These are measurable environmental mechanisms.

Astrological interpretations of planetary configurations belong to a different framework.

Current biomedical evidence has not demonstrated that planetary positions used in Jyotisha directly regulate:

dopamine, serotonin, cortisol, vagal tone or the SCN.

Kriyasya can explore both fields.

The strongest approach is to label the framework being used rather than turning symbolic correspondence into a biomedical claim.

The Deeper Insight: Your Body Predicts the Day

A useful way to understand circadian biology is to think of the organism as anticipatory.

The body does not merely wait for something to happen and then respond.

Internal clocks allow physiological systems to prepare for recurring events.

Before habitual waking, physiology already begins changing.

Across the biological day, body temperature shifts.

Before expected activity and food intake, metabolic systems may be organised differently from the biological night.

This ability to anticipate regular environmental patterns provides an evolutionary advantage.

A world structured by sunrise, sunset, activity, rest and food availability rewarded organisms capable of predicting recurring change.

Modern lifestyles have changed dramatically.

Our biology has not become independent of time.

The Kriyasya Perspective

When traditional knowledge and neuroscience are placed together, four questions should guide the investigation.

What Did the Traditional Source Actually Say?

The original source should be checked before a modern interpretation is attributed to it.

What Has Modern Science Actually Measured?

Claims should be tied to measurable variables rather than scientific-sounding terminology.

Where Is There a Meaningful Parallel?

Traditional observation and contemporary science may sometimes address the same human phenomenon from different perspectives.

What Remains Unproven?

A possible connection is not a demonstrated mechanism.

Clearly labelling uncertainty allows genuine research questions to emerge.

Conclusion

Your body lives in time.

Light entering the eyes tells the circadian system about the external day.

The SCN helps coordinate internal rhythms.

Peripheral clocks organise physiology throughout the body.

Eating, movement, sleep and environmental conditions provide additional information.

Cortisol changes around waking.

Melatonin signals biological night.

Metabolism changes across the day.

The gut, nervous system and endocrine systems participate in rhythmic physiology.

Ancient Indian traditions also treated time, routine, food, movement and sensory regulation as important aspects of human life.

That historical observation is worthy of serious exploration.

But serious exploration requires precision.

We do not need to claim that Pitta is cortisol, Indriyas are receptors or Prana is electricity.

The more interesting reality is already in front of us:

the human body is not merely biological—it is biological in time.

Understanding that relationship may help us design daily routines that work more naturally with our physiology while allowing traditional systems to be studied with respect rather than forced into modern terminology.

<h2
