Jasoda Hari palne jhulaye,
Halraave dulraave malhaave, joi soi kuchh gaave.
Mere Lal ko aau nindariya, kahe na aan sulaave,

Kabahun palak Hari moond let hain, kabahun adhar pharkaave,

Mother Yashoda is rocking baby Krishna in His cradle. She lovingly sways Him, caresses Him, and sings various lullabies. She calls upon Sleep — “O Slumber, come quickly to my darling child, why don’t you come fast? Krishna is calling you!” Sometimes the baby closes His eyes, sometimes His lips quiver. Thinking He is asleep, Yashoda quietly brings her breast to His mouth. Surdas says this scene fills the heart with immense bliss, and he witnesses it again and again.
