There is One God, His Name is True (Sat Naam). He is the Creator, without fear, without enmity. He is timeless, unborn, self-existent — known by the Guru’s grace. He was True in the beginning, True through the ages, is True now, and will remain True (says Nanak). By thinking alone He cannot be known, even if one thinks a hundred thousand times. By remaining silent, inner silence is not achieved. Hunger is not satisfied by loading oneself with worldly things. A hundred thousand clever tricks do not help. How then can one become truthful? How can the veil of falsehood be torn? By walking in God’s Will — this is written in one’s destiny (says Nanak).
